No option to disaster management drill to deal calamities: Enamur

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Disaster Management and
Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman today said there is no alternative to Disaster
Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE) to deal natural calamities in the
country.

“DREE is an earthquake disaster related exercise which had been conducted
in Bangladesh since 2010. With providing exercise and knowledge about the
international equipment for combating disasters in the days to come, this
event will be a landmark in capacity building of disaster management in
Bangladesh,” he said.

He was addressing the inaugural session of training exercise workshop of
DREE, the largest earthquake disaster related exercise in the Asia Pacific
region, as the chief guest at Army Golf Club in the city.

Starting from today, the five-day exercise programme of DREE will be
conducted simultaneously in Dhaka and Rangpur with the theme ‘Resilience
through Preparedness’, according to a press release of Inter Service Public
Relations (ISPR).

This year Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR), Armed Forces
Division (AFD) and United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) are jointly hosting
the event, it added.

Over 500 participants from 237 different organisations are participating
in the drill.

The number of participants will be around 1,200 during the field training
exercise as over 100 participants from over 20 countries are also joining the
exercise.

Such exercise will enhance earthquake disaster management of Bangladesh
and also improve regional cooperation for disaster response as a whole, added
the release.
