Tehran to continue work for Rohingya crisis solution

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct 25, 2019 (BSS) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani today said Tehran will continue work for creating international pressure on Myanmar for solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis.

“We’ll continue work whatever is necessary for mounting international pressure on Myanmar for solution to the Rohingya crisis and bringing back their nationals from Bangladesh,” he said.

The Iranian president gave the assurance in his meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Baku Congress Centre here on the sidelines of the 18th NAM Summit this afternoon.

After the meeting, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque briefed reporters.

Rouhani extended his sincere thanks to the prime minister for giving shelter to over 1.1 million Rohingyas in Bangladesh.

He said Iran will continue support to the forcibly displaced Myanmar people. Sheikh Hasina thanked the Iranian president for their commitment on the Rohingya issue.

The Iranian president said his country will work together with Bangladesh to stamp out terrorism.

Rouhani highlighted the cordial cultural and historical relations with Bangladesh.

The prime minister said Islamic Ummah will have to be united and said the Islamic Ummah could emerge as a big force if it becomes united by resolving conflicts among themselves.
