Form ‘local government commission’: Inu
DHAKA, May 30, 2018(BSS)-Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, today suggested formation of a “Local Government Commission” for the development of the local bodies.
The minister was speaking at a seminar on “strengthening of local government and decentralization” in the city’s CIRDAP auditorium.
He suggested that the laws regarding the five-tier local government and the central government needed to be clarified, further.
The minister also said that it was only through the strengthening of local government institutions that marginal groups and regions could be developed.
He also said that more money should be allocated to local government institution in the upcoming budget and their powers needed to be increased.
He also suggested that the women members of the local government organizations needed to be further empowered.
The minister said that the empowerment was necessary to hinder others from creating impediments to the work of local government.
