3,38,440 children to get vitamin A-plus capsule

GAIBANDHA, July 28, 2017 (BSS) – A total of 3,38, 440 children of the district will be fed blue and red colour vitamin A capsule on August 5 with a view to reducing the risk of child mortality.

Of them, some 34,063 babies aged 6-11 months will be fed blue colour vitamin A capsule while 3,04,377 kids aged 12-59 months will be administered red colour capsule on the day.

A total of 4,242 health and family planning personnel, including 3,600 volunteers and 255 supervisors, will remain active at 2,121 centres throughout the district to make the campaign successful.

This was disclosed by Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Amir Ali in an orientation meeting for the journalists organised by Health Department on Vitamin A Plus campaign held at the conference room of CS here yesterday afternoon.

The function was also addressed, among others, by Sadar upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr ABM Abu Hanif, Medical Officer Dr Shihab M Rezawanur Rahman, Junior Health Education Officer Abdul Hannan and Journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.

Special initiatives had been taken to bring all the children of char as well as remote areas of the district under this programme in cooperation with some NGOs, including Friendship, said the civil surgeon.

Seeking all-out cooperation, Amir Ali urged journalists to create awareness among people about the campaign through publishing positive reports in their respective media.

The CS also called upon the journalists to consult with the officials concerned before sending and publishing reports regarding Vitamin A plus campaign here in their respective media as any wrong report might create panic to the guardians of the children.

A good number of journalists of print and electronic media, including national news agency BSS, participated in the meeting.
