Finance minister leaves for USA early tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2019 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal leaves here for Washington in the early hours of Monday to attend the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Kamal, who is leading the Bangladesh delegation, is scheduled to meet the Vice President of the South Asia region of the World Bank Hartwig Schafer on October 17 as well as attend a meeting of the Finance Ministers of the SAARC countries, said a Finance Ministry press release.

The release said the annual meeting highlighting the World Bank’s fund would be held on October 18. The finance minister is expected to return home on October 27 after attending some meetings of the IMF.

The Annual Meetings of the World Bank and IMF are expected to discuss the current trend of the global economy side by side a roundtable discussion is scheduled to be held on mobilizing more funding for the forcibly displaced Rohingyas.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, Finance Division Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder and Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Monowar Ahmed will accompany the finance minister during the tour.

Besides, Bangladesh Ambassador to USA Mohammad Ziauddin, Alternate Executive Director of Bangladesh to the World Bank M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, and Minister (Economic) Md Shahabuddin Patwari will join the Bangladesh delegation from Washington.
