DHAKA, Sept 29, 2019 (BSS) -Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has waged a massive anti-crime campaign exposing to justice even the ruling party men while BNP preferred accommodating corrupt and criminal elements amending its party charter.

“Here lies the difference between Awami League and BNP,” he said, addressing a memorial meeting at the auditorium of Jatiya Press Club here.

The information minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has begun the drives against irregularities, corruption, drugs and casino to eliminate all anomies and wrongful activities in the country.

He said there are many infiltrators in Awami League. “Moral turpitude of some leaders has taken place too. Casino is an illegal business and those involved in the business are the infiltrators . . . Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking tough actions against corrupt people irrespective of political identities. No one will be spared,” he added.

On the other hand, Dr Hasan said, BNP gave an institutional shape to all irregularities and corruption during their regime through making ‘Hawa Bhaban’. Even, BNP has scrapped section 7 of the party constitution to accommodate the corrupt people in party leadership, he added.

‘MA Mannan Sharok Parshad’ organized the memorial meeting marking the 10th death anniversary of former minister and one of the organizers of the War of Liberation MA Mannan. AL Presidium Member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain presided over it.

AL Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, AL Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Deputy Office Secretary and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Barrister Biplob Barua, AL North City unit General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, sons of MA Mannan Abdul Latif Tipu and Didarul Alam and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, among others, spoke at the meeting. Washika Khanam, MP, was also present, among others.

Dr Hasan said the leaders of Awami League take the politics as a mission. But the leaders of BNP take politics as a stair of capturing power and indulge themselves in luxury, he added.

“Awami League was created through movements while BNP was created by distributing leftovers of power,” said Dr Hasan, also AL publicity and publication secretary.

Paying rich tribute to MA Mannan, the information minister said the late leader will ever be remembered for his outstanding contribution in politics and society as well. “There are many things to learn from MA Mannan,” he observed.

In his speech, Amu said BNP is criticizing the ongoing drives against corruption and casino though the people of the country are happy with the drives.

“Many parties and the countrymen have welcomed the drives while BNP is criticizing it as they could not accept the move,” he added.

He said most of the arrestees in the recent drives are infiltrators and they joined AL from other political parties. “The supply of illegal money has stopped from the corrupt people to BNP due to the ongoing drives. So, they (BNP) are not accepting the drives,” he added.

Amu said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will continue the drives to eliminate corruption and irregularities from the country.
