JS body for preserving folk songs, literary works

DHAKA, Sept 25, 2019 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on
Ministry of Cultural Affairs today recommended taking necessary steps for
collecting and preserving folk songs and literary works across the country.

The committee made the recommendations at its 4th meeting with the
committee chairman Simin Hossain Rimi in the chair at Jatiya Sangsad (JS)
Bhaban here, said a press release.

The committee had an elaborate discussion regarding the work progress of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy regarding preservation of the traditional
Bhawaiya songs particularly from Kurigram’s Chilmari area.

The meeting was informed that a total number of 13,481 folk songs were
preserved in the National Archives and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in 2016,
through the ‘Collection and Preservation of Folk Culture’ activities.

The committee also recommended increasing the honorarium allowance for the
acrobatic artists, added the release.

The meeting was informed that, to mark the birth centenary of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a letter was sent to the UNOs and
Secondary Education Officers to confirm the participation of the ninth and
tenth grade students in the programme ‘My proposal, my belief’.

Committee members Cultural Affairs State Minister KM Khalid, members of the
parliament- Momtaz Begum, Kazi Keramat Ali, Subarna Mustafa and Aseem Kumar
Ukil, among others, were present in the meeting.
