DHAKA, July 26, 2017 (BSS) – Rain pounded several parts of the country particularly in Dhaka city throwing life out of gear as the monsoon rain continued since the past few days.

Torrential rain led to a deluge-like situation in low-lying areas of the country including Chittagong and Dhaka city.

An official of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) told BSS that 56 millimeters were recorded in Dhaka city from 6am to 12noon today. The entire country is witnessing heavy downpour today, he said adding rainfall will start to decrease from tomorrow.

“Southern parts of the country may witness heavy to heavy during next few days,” he added.

Due to active monsoon heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal And Chittagong divisions during next 24 hours commencing at 10.00 am of today, a Met Office weather bulletin said.

Due to heavy to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong division.

According to a BMD weather bulletin, squally weather is unlikely over north bay and adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower signal.

Incessant rains since last night led to heavy water-logging in Dhaka city, including Motijheel, Purana Paltan, Fakirapul, Arambagh, Malibagh, Shatinagar, Rajarbagh, Kazi Para, Shewrapara areas, causing sufferings for commuters.

According to experts, poor drainage system is largely responsible for water-logging in Dhaka city as moderate rainfall is enough for submerging many areas of the city.
