Met office predicts heavy rainfall

DHAKA, July 25, 2017 (BSS) – Due to active monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions in next 24 hours as of 10am tomorrow, a warning message of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said today.

“Due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, landslide may occur at places in the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions,” it added.

It said the low over West Bengal and adjoining area intensified into a well marked low and now lies over the same area. The monsoon axis runs through Rajsthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and centre of the well marked low to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends upto North-west Bay. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong elsewhere over North Bay.

“Rain or thundershowers temporary southern or south-easterly squalls speed 60-80 kph is likely to occur in the regions of Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar wherein river ports will hoist signal number two till 6pm today,” the release continued.

Country’s highest temperature on Monday was recorded 32.4 degree Celsius at Tetulia in Rangpur and minimum temperature 23.2 degree Celsius at Rangamati in Chittagong division. The highest rainfall was recorded 223 millimeter at Chittagong. Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The sun sets at 6.45pm today and rises at 5.25am tomorrow in the capital city of Dhaka.
