Govt. working for ensuring road safety to prevent accidents: Shajahan

RANGPUR, Sept 1, 2019 (BSS) – Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Liberation War Affairs Ministry Shajahan Khan today said the government is working for improving road networks to prevent accidents.

Shahjahan, also Acting Chairman of Central Committee of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation, said this while addressing the motor owners’-workers’ views-exchange meeting held at District Motor Owners’ Association office here as the chief guest.

The District Motor Owners’ Association and District Motor Workers’ Union jointly organised the event with Vice-president of District Motor Owners’ Association Md. Mozammel Haque in the chair.

Shajahan Khan said necessary recommendations have been given to the government for development of vehicle drivers, roads and highways across the country.

“The government has given assurance to provide improved training to drivers, stop harassment in obtaining driving licenses, issuance of appointment letters by vehicle owners and facilities for rest of drivers while driving on long-routes,” he said.

He said the government has started working to reduce number of deaths from road accidents, stop extortions, improve road conditions, provide improved training to drivers and stop all types of irregularities to make safe roads and highways.

Drivers and Counter Managers of different transport organisations operating vehicles on the Dhaka, Bogra, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Rangpur routes also shared their experiences.

They urged their central leaders for ensuring issuance of letters of appointment to drivers, stopping harassments on the roads, easing process of getting driving license and reducing traffic jam on the roads. Acting Chairman of Central Command Council of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Major General Helal Morshed, Bir Bikram, and General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation Alhaj Osman Ali addressed as special guests.

Joint General Secretary of District Motor Owners’ Association Azizul Islam Raju, President of District Motor Workers’ Union Tajul Islam Mukul, its General Secretary Abdul Mazid, among others, addressed. Later, Shahjahan Khan joined an event organized by Rangpur District Unit Command of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad in the city as the chief guest.
