Rohingya leaders for escalating global pressure on Myanmar

COX’S BAZAR, Aug 25, 2019 (BSS) – Rohingya leaders today called upon the international community to escalate pressure on the Myanmar government for creating safe environment for their repatriation to their soil of origin in Rakhaine state.

“All Rohingyas will go back to their home if they get assurance of getting citizenship, freedom and dignity there. We agree to sit with the Myanmar government to this end,” they said at a rally here.

Rohingya people held the rally beside the extension-4 Rohingya camp at Madhuchara of Ukhiya upazila in the district marking the two years of Rohingya crisis.

They demanded justice at international court for ‘genocide, rapes and atrocities’ carried out against Rohingya people in Myanmar.

Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights President Muhib Ullah, General Secretary Syed Ullah, Rohingya leaders Noor Hakim, Md Kamal, Abdur Rahim and Hamida Begum addressed the rally, among others.

Bangladesh is now hosting over 11.50 lakh Rohingyas, most of whom entered the country since August 25, 2017. The two countries signed a repatriation deal on November 23, 2017, but there has been little progress.

For the second time on last Thursday was fixed for Rohingya expatriation. But the process has been postponed as Rohingya people did not agree to go back without fulfill of their condition.
