Aug 21 grenade attack anniversary observed in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 21, 2019 (BSS) – The 15th anniversary of the grisly grenade attack on August 21 in 2004 was observed in the city and district with the demand to unmask all masterminds behind the attacks and ensure their exemplary punishments.

Different political parties including Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, left-leaning parties, social-cultural and professional organizations observed the day paying homage to the martyred of August 21.

The day’s programmes included hoisting of national and black flags at half-mast atop all party offices, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu and 24 leaders and workers of AL including Ivey Rahman, Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings and protest rally and mourning processions.

AL Chattogram city unit General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin and its acting President Mahtabuddin Chowdhury along with leaders of city AL placed wreaths at the makeshift memorial at its party office at Darulfazal Market.

Chattogram city units of AL organized a discussion meeting with its Acting President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury in the chair, its General Secretary city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin addressed the discussion held at Jilla Parisad auditorium.

Addressing the function, AJM Nasir Uddin said the August 21 grenade attack was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy that started through the killing of Bangabandhu and most of his family members to make the nation leaderless and erase AL from this soil.

Criticizing the then BNP-Jamaat government for the hateful August 21 grenade attack, Nasir demanded to unmask of all masterminds behind the attacks and ensure their exemplary punishments.

Chattogram south district units of AL organized a discussion meeting at Jilla Parisad with its President Muslem Uddin Ahmed in the chair. Its General Secretary Mofizur Rahman spoke it.

Chattogram north district AL also organized similar programme at its Doost building with its acting president ABM Fazle karim Chowdhury in the chair.

Besides, a programme was held under the auspicious of Chattogram Citizens Initiatives (CCI) in which demand was made to unmask of all masterminds including Tarek Zia for scores of attempts on the blessed daughter of democracy and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Addressing the programme titled “An open letter to the world conscience” city Mayor said 21st grisly grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina was tantamount to international crime.

CCI president Reaz Haider Chowdhury presided over the function while it was addressed, among others, by Chattogram city Muktijudda Sangsad Commander Mozaffar Ahmed, President of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) Ali Abbas and president of professional coordination council Prof. Dr A Q M Sirajul Islam.
