Country achieves independence under Bangabandhu’s courageous leadership: Speaker
DHAKA, Aug 20, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave independence to the countrymen through his courageous leadership.
“He (Bangabandhu) never bowed to the wrongdoers and brought independence for the Bengali people through his courageous leadership… He struggled for the rights of the people throughout his life,” she said.
She stated this as the chief guest at a discussion meeting at Shaheed Shafiur Rahman auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Association here marking the Bangabandhu’s 44th martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day.
Shirin said all the masterminds both local and international of Bangabandhu killing should be unmasked to bring them to justice. She also demanded posthumous trial of Ziaur Rahman.
Attorney General Advocate Mahbubey Alam, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, MP, Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Amin Uddin, former media advisor to Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Dhaka University former Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) Dr Iqbal Arsenal, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ)President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and National Press Club Senior Vice-President and also former BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruk spoke on the occasion.
Peshajibi Shomonnoy Parishad organized the meeting with its president AFM Mesbahuddin in the chair.
