DHAKA, May 16, 2018 (BSS) – Ambassadors of United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan to Bangladesh separately presented their credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

The two envoys are Saed Mohammed Saed Hamid Almheiri of UAE and Abdul Qayoom Malikzad of Afghanistan, President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Welcoming the ambassadors, the President said Bangladesh attaches importance to bilateral relations with the UAE and Afghanistan.

Expressing satisfaction over the existing relations between Bangladesh and UAE in trade and investment, the President hoped that the bilateral relations with the UAE would further be expanded in the days ahead.

The bilateral relations with UAE that started in 1974 after the visit of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have already turned into multilateral ones, he said.

“The United Arab Emirate is one of our development partners. Both the countries have bright business and investment potentials,” the President said adding that the countries should unitize these potentials properly.

He emphasized more or regular high-level visits between the two countries to take the existing relations to a newer height as there remain many sectors to enhance trade and business relations at present time.

The President stressed simplifying the VISA process between the two countries. He also urged the UAE investors to invest more here as Bangladesh has huge labour market in the UAE.

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to UAE in 2015, Abdul Hamid said this visit had opened new door of development between the two states.

The President told the Afghan envoy that there are huge scopes of trade and investment between Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Secretaries concerned to the President were present.

Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, the two envoys were given honour guards separately by a horse-mounted contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR). The national anthems of Bangladesh and their respective countries were played on the occasion.
