RAJSHAHI, May 7, 2018 (BSS)- SAARC Peoples Link Forum (SPLF), Bangladesh here demanded launching direct railway services between Rajshahi and Kolkata via Malda and Murshidabad for infusing dynamism into living and livelihood condition of people in the region.

It also demanded introduction of immigration services at Rohanpur in Bangladesh and Malda in India for easy communication between people of the two neighbouring countries.

The SPLF put forward the demands in concluding session of its daylong annual general meeting in the city on Sunday.

Chaired by SPLF President Mustafizur Rahman Khan, the meeting was addressed, among others, by General Secretary Kolpona Roy, Treasurer Shahnaj Begum, Vice president Dr Abdul Mannan and Members Tabibur Rahman, Golam Mostofa Mamun, Tahera Khatun and Prof Nurunnahar Begum.

The meeting calls for more peoples’ connectivity among the neighbouring countries for substantial and sustainable development of the region.

It mentioned that connectivity at people’s level of SAARC countries should be enhanced to develop better understanding. Not only through tourism, the relation may be improved in cultural, sports and also in other arenas.

There should be provision of road and rail ways connectivity for the sake of welfare of the people as many people moving on this route for various purposes including treatment, study, tourism and cultural activities suffer a lot due to lack of direct railway service.
