22,500 buildings to be built at educational institutions: Nahid

DHAKA, May 5, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said 22,500 buildings will be constructed at the educational institutions to remove infrastructure problems in the education sector.

Since 2009, the government has constructed 10,500 buildings at the educational institutions to ensure access of all students to education, he told a meeting in the auditorium of International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) here, an official release said.

Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohrab Hossain and Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Division Md Alamgir and senior officials, among others, addressed the meeting with Chief Engineer of Education Engineering Department Dewan Mohammad Hanjala in the chair.

Nahid said despite a number of challenges, Bangladesh has some remarkable achievements in the education sector.

“Distribution of free textbooks among the students of primary and secondary levels, increase in enrolment rate and removal of gender inequality in primary and secondary education have already been acknowledged in different international forums,” he added.

The minister urged officials concerned to perform their duties with sincerity to supplement the efforts of the government to improve quality of education.
