JS passes Bangladesh Veterinary Council Bill, 2019

SANGSAD BHABAN, July 7, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Veterinary Council Bill,
2019 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad with a view to maintaining the
professional standard of the veterinary practitioners and also to extend
quality healthcare services to resist the animal diseases.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock M Ashraf Ali Khan Khosru today
moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with
Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah in the chair.

Placing the bill, the State Minister said the proposed law will be enacted
through replacing the Bangladesh Veterinary Practitioners Ordinance, 1982.

A 13-members council will be formed headed by the Director General of the
Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and the operation and administration
of the council will be operated by an executive committee.

Under the proposed bill, the council will establish the legal right and
facilities of the veterinary practitioners and the paravets.

The registered veterinary practitioners are entitled to add ‘doctor’ title
with their name, but the paravets are not entitled to add ‘doctor’ title with
their name as per the proposed law, according to the bill.

The state minister urged the House to send the bill to the Parliamentary
Standing Committee for providing report within 45 days. After scrutiny, the
standing committee placed the report with its recommendation for passage of
the bill in an amended form.
