Yaba trader killed in ‘gunfight’ in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, July 2, 2019 (BSS) – An alleged yaba trader of the district was killed in a gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila here early today.

The deceased was identified as Hamid, 45, hailed from Maheshkhaliapara area under the upazila. He was a member of Sadar Union Parishad. Three police personnel were also injured in the gunfight.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Thana Prodip Kumar Das said they
went to the area for recovering yaba tablets based on the confessional
statement of Hamid who was arrested by police on Monday.

Sensing their presence, accomplices of Hamid member fired on police. In
retaliation, police responded with counter fire. At one stage, the drug
traders retreated, but Hamid member was found with bullet injury.

He was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex but the attending doctors
referred him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Later, Hamid succumbed to his injuries on way to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar
Hospital.

Police recovered four firearms, 38 rounds of bullets and 6,000 yaba tablets
from the spot.

A case was filed with Teknaf Thana in this connection.
