TCB to start commodity selling from May 6 for holy Ramadan

DHAKA, April 24, 2018 (BSS) – The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will begin commodity selling in reduced price across the country from May 6 on the occasion of holy Ramadan.

Under the programme, the corporation will sale edible oil, sugar, red pulse, chick-pea and dates across the country including the capital.

“The programme will begin tentatively from May 6 and it would continue upto the Eid-ul Fitr,”Md Ruhul Amin Khan, Director (clearing, movement and sales, distribution) of TCB.

The selling programme will be carried out through 2,784 dealers and 187 trucks across the country, he said. “Every dealer will get all the commodities in three installments and the people will buy a certain amount of commodity from the dealer,” he added.

In addition to this, the programme would also be operated from 10 retail selling centers across the country —three in Dhaka and the rest seven selling centers are located at the divisional cities.

The truck sale will be operated at 35 spots in Dhaka, 10 spots in Chittagong, five spots in each divisional cities and two spots in each district towns.

Considering the stock position, the TCB will give an allocation of 500-1500 kg sugar, 200-1000 kg red pulse, 200-1500 liters edible oil, 300-1500 kg chick-pea and 20-50 kg dates to each dealers ahead of the Ramadan, he said.

Apart from this, the corporation will give special allocation to the dealers particularly for the Eid-ul Fitr.

As per the stock position till June 30 in 2017, the Corporation has a stockpile of 368.50 tonnes sugar, 918.330 tonnes red pulse and 140.99 tonnes soyabean oil.

The government has given Taka 375,99,75,769.00 crore as subsidy to the TCB in last five years from 2010-2011 to 2015-2016 fiscal years.
