Chattogram hails proposed national budget

CHATTOGRAM, June 13, 2019 (BSS) – Leaders of different trade bodies, entrepreneurs, economists and leaders of political parties hailed the just announced proposed national budget for fiscal 2019-2020 and termed it as pragmatic and development-oriented.

This budget aims with basic objective to make a step towards turning the
country into a middle-income one by 2021, they commented.In an instant
reaction to BSS, acting president of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce &
Industries (CCCI) Sayed Zamal Ahmed welcomed the budget saying it would play
a positive role in growth of different development strategies in business,
investment and poverty alleviation.

The acting CCCI President thanked the government for giving special
allocation to ongoing mega projects including the high speed Dhaka-Chattogram
train, construction of Bay terminal in Chattogram port,

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Area, the largest, planned and modern
industrial area on 30,000 acres of land in Mirsarai, Sonagazi and Sitakunda
upazilas which is progressing in full swing. Establishment of 100 Specialised
Economic Zones (SEZs) across the country was in progress for employment
generation through increased investment. He conveyed thanks to the present
government for establishing economic zones and creating employment facilities
for the people.

President of Chattogram Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries Monowara
Hakim Ali said increased allocation in education would increase ongoing
quality education in the country particularly in primary level. She said the
people would be benefited with the reduction of import duty on raw material
of cancer medicine and raw material of locally assembled mobile phone. The
women chamber president, however, underlined importance of proper and quality
implementation of the proposed budget for graduating the country into a
middle income developing one. Terming the proposed budget as production and
employment opportunity oriented one the women chamber president said the
business entrepreneurs will feel encouraged to invest in industry which will
result in generating employment opportunity in the country.

President of Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries
Khalilur Rahman today hailed several proposals of the national budget for
fiscal 2019-20 and termed it as a business friendly one.He also demanded more
allocation in the field of communication, health and development of
Chattogram port.

City Jatiya Party (JP) leader Solaiman Alam Sheth termed the proposed
budget for fiscal year 2019-20 though apparently ambitious but it is
development oriented which would create vast opportunities for businessmen
and private sector.He, however, demanded of the government allocation of
special budget for overall development of Chattogram.

Other speakers at the meeting also welcomed other highlights of the

budget including increasing the rate of allowance for financially
insolvent, disabled persons, beneficiaries of the educational stipend
allowances for the disabled person, both at the primary and secondary
levels.Hailing the proposed budget.

Law Affairs’ Secretary of Chattogram city Awami League (AL) and former
President of Chattogram District Bar Association Advocate Iftekhar Saimul
Chowdhury said the pro-people budget would play a significant role to boost
the economy, alleviate poverty and improve quality of education, empower
women, industrialise and establish a Digital Bangladesh.He said in order to
increase the social security coverage and improve the living standards of the
poor the social security net had been increased for the protection of the
poor.

Chattogram city AL and its front organizations also brought out separate
processions welcoming the budget.The procession led by city Mayor AJM Nasir
Uddin started from the city’s Darul Fazal market and ended at the Muslim Hall
Institute after parading different important city streets.

However, BNP did not give any formal reaction to the budget.
