DSA only to tackle cyber crimes: Anisul

DHAKA, June 10, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq today said the government has formulated Digital Security
Act (DSA) only to tackle cyber crimes.

“The act was not formulated to curb the freedom of speech or the freedom
of press. It was formulated only to tackle cyber crimes,” he told newsmen
after coming out of his meeting with European Union (EU) Special
Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore this afternoon.

Gimore was leading a five-member delegation, as they called on to Anisul
at his Gulshan residence.

While talking about the imprisonment of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia,
the law minister said she was convicted by court in two graft cases and the
government has nothing to do with this, adding, “Government has no role to
play here to release her or keeping her confined.”

Anisul informed the EU envoy about the current status of Nusrat murder
trial, saying even the Prime Minister has given special emphasis on this
trial.

“Government wants to complete the trial within shortest possible time
through following the appropriate steps,” he added.

The law minister said they have also discussed matters like Bepza Act,
children rights act, Rohingya and alleged extrajudicial killings.
