Khaleda should have imprisoned earlier: Dr Hasan

CHATTOGRAM, June 7, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia should have imprisoned earlier for her misdeeds.

He said that Khaleda had been celebrating her birthday on 15th August, the National Mourning Day, in addition to handing over national flags among the war criminals and collaborators aimed at clinging to power, leaving sprit of independence and sovereignty.

The minister said it was Begum Zia who told the House on grisly grenade attack on 21st August, 2004, where 24 people including Ivy Rahman were killed, the then leader of the opposition Sheikh Hasina carried the grenades through her purse.

“She also issued statements when Pakistan parliament condemned the trial of war criminals in Bangladesh. She being a former prime minister mourned the death of a Pakistani general violating all protocols. That’s why she should have gone to jail earlier” he added.

The minister was addressing as chief guest at a discussion meeting marking the historic Six-point demand held at Bangabandhu conference hall of Chattogram press club.

Hasan, also Publicity and Publication Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, raised question why BNP does not observe the Six-point day and 7th march, the important milestone in the struggle for liberation war and the spirit of independence.

Terming the Six-point demand as the charter of freedom of Bangalees, he said, June 7 is a red letter day in Bangladesh’s history. “BNP does not observe those days as they are yet to forget the spirit and ideology of Pakistan,” he added.

The minister said that the historic Six-point demand, proclaimed by the greatest Bangalee of all times, Bangabandhu, took an important turn on June 7th, 1966.

Hasan said that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman killed democracy and formed BNP combined with the political crows scattering wastages of political power.

He said Zia scattered the leftovers of political powers among the BNP leaders in the same way that the crows were attracted the wastes of food materials.

“BNP leaders including Mirza Fakrul, Moudud, Khondoker Mosharrf Hossain and BNP senior join secretary general Rizvi like as political crows and in the first time the BNP leaders were recruited from different political parties,” he said.

The minister said Zia had rehabilitated the war criminals, given the anti-liberation forces chance to do politics and given voting rights to war criminals. “This was not the democracy of people…this was the renaming of rehabilitating war criminals.

Referring to Rizvi’s remarks that Begum Zia has been celebrating Eid festival in jail for 5th times while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now in Finland, the information minister said Prime Minister did not go to Finland for Eid celebration rather she is now there on a state visit.

“Begum Zia is now in jail for her offence in the cases filed by the then caretaker government but certainly not by Awami League,” he added.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohuibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP, Awami League leaders Muslem Uddin Ahmed, Khurshed Alam Sujan, Mofizur Rahman and Shahajada Mohiuddin, among others, addressed the function.

Acting President of City Awami League Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the discussion meeting, organized by Chattogram city, north and south districts chapters of Awami League.
