CHATTOGRAM, April 10, 2018 (BSS)- Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has launched a 25-day crash programme for eradicating mosquito and reducing water logging in the port city from today.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the programme by removing garbage, cutting mud from a canel and spraying mosquito killing insecticides in a canal at city’s Andarkillah area this morning.

“We want to clean up all drains, culverts and canals in the city so that rain water cannot submerge city roads during heavy downpour or high tide”, Nasir said.

The Conservancy Department of the city corporation will supervise the Taka 9-crore crash programme.

Programme for eradicating mosquito and reducing water logging will continue till May 5, Chief Conservancy Officer of CCC Shafiqul Mannan Siddiqui said.

He said 500 conservancy workers, including 266 temporary ones, will be engaged in fighting against mosquito and reducing water logging in all 41 wards of the port city.

The official said the drive will be conducted in five wards each day till it covers the entire corporation area by May 5.

“The workers will spray mosquito killing insecticides in canals, drains, culverts and other water bodies, which are the major source of mosquito breeding,” he said.

CCC Executive Engineer Sudip Basak said besides spraying for mosquito control, CCC will also remove mud and garbage from canals, drains, culverts, ponds and water bodies to reduce water logging in the city.
