Shirin calls on Singaporean speaker

SINGAPORE, May 29, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today made a courtesy call on Singaporean parliament Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin at his parliament office here.

During the meeting, they discussed on the issues of practicing of parliamentary norms and values, trade, Rohingya, climate change, development of Bangladesh and its digitization, an official release said.

The speaker said that Bangladesh had a friendly relationship with Singapore for a long time. She also hoped that the existing relationship would reach to a new height by increasing business and trade between the two countries.

Shirin said Bangladesh wants a peaceful and permanent rehabilitation of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their homeland (Myanmar) on the basis of the five-point proposal raised by the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the UN General Assembly.

Chuan-Jin said Singapore will support Bangladesh to this end.

Lawmakers AFM Ruhul Haque, Md Israfil Alam, Mir Mustaq Ahmed Rabi, Ashake Ullah Rafiq, Ayesha Ferdous, Wasika Ayesha Khan Aroma Dutta and Nahid Ezhar Khan and other parliament secretariat officials were present on the occasion.
