Foreign minister briefs foreign diplomats on OIC’s CFM

 DHAKA, April 5, 2018 (BSS) – Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali today briefed the foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka over the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

The two-day Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will begin in the city on May 5.

Heads of all diplomatic missions and international organisations in Dhaka joined the briefing held at the State Guest House Padma, a foreign ministry statement said.

The theme of the CFM is “Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development”.

During the briefing the foreign minister apprised the issues to be discussed at the conference, including issue of Palestine and challenges facing the Muslim ummah in the present world.

Ali told the briefing that issues like conflicts, division, tension and instability of the Muslim world will be major focus at the council along with the problems of terrorism and violent extremism.

Besides, Rohingya crisis, sectarian tendencies, hatred, prejudice and Islamophobia would also be discussed in the upcoming 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).

Issues of persistent poverty, socio-economic backwardness of Muslim societies, protection of their rights and fundamental freedoms will also get priority in the discussion, he added.

A visit to the makeshift camps in Cox’s Bazar sheltering Rohingyas from Myanmar will also be organised for the heads of delegations and international organisations of interested, the foreign minister told the briefing.
