Top Swedish firms keen to work in Bangladesh’s power, RMG sectors

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, June 17, 2017 (BSS) – The Investor AB and the ABB Sweden, the two leading Swedish companies, yesterday expressed their keenness to work for the development of the power and readymade garments (RMG) sectors in Bangladesh.

The keenness was expressed when Investor AB President Jacob Wallenberg and Vice-President Marcus Wallenberg and ABB Sweden Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Johan Soderstrom separately called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Grand Hotel here this morning.

Sheikh Hasina is now in Stockholm on a three-day bilateral official visit to Sweden.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meetings.

He said the Investor AB and the ABB Sweden top executives lauded highly the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in steering the country towards prosperity and massive socioeconomic development.

Sheikh Hasina apprised them of various government steps taken by her government for the development of the country.

Later, President and CEO of H&M Karl-Johan Persson also called on the Prime Minister at her hotel suite.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted various steps of her government for the development of the RMG sector.

She urged the buyers to raise the price of RMG products, saying that this would eventually benefit the workers.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Senior PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque, Bangladesh Ambassador to Sweden Md Golam Sarwar and Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Johan Frisell, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Siddiqur Rahman were present at the meetings.
