84th birthday of Sajeda Chowdhury tomorrow
DHAKA, May 7, 2019 (BSS) – The 84th birthday of Awami League Presidium Member and Deputy Leader of the Parliament Sayed Sajeda Chowdhury will be celebrated tomorrow.
To mark the day, the veteran AL leader will exchange greetings with party leaders and workers at his Dhanmondi residence. Her family will arrange a doa and iftar mahfil at a Dhanmondi restaurant.
Sajeda, one of the organizers of Liberation War and a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has a versatile political career.
She was born in a respected Muslim family of Syed Shah Hamid Ullah and Syeda Achhia Khatun in Magura in 1935.
She joined Awami League in 1956. She served as the founding general secretary of Mahila Awami League from 1969-1975. She was founding director of Kolkata Gobra Nursing Camp during the Liberation War. The veteran leader also served as the acting general secretary of Awami League.
Apart from politics, she also engaged herself with social works and contributed to the development of sports, cultural and religious institutions.
In 2010, she was given Independence Award. In 2019, she was elected member of the parliament from Faridpur-2 constituency for the 7th time and elected deputy leader of the House for the third time.
