Shilaidaha Kuthibari to mark Rabindranath’s birth anniversary tomorrow

DHAKA, MAY 7, 2019 (BSS) – A three-day festival will begin tomorrow at
Shilaidaha Kuthibari in Kushtia to celebrate the birth anniversary of
Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore.

On the 25th of Baishakh in 1268 Bengali calendar, Rabindranath, the
fountainhead of Bengali wisdom, was born at Jorasanko in Kolkata.

He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as arts of Indian
subcontinent with contextual modernism.

Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia and chairman of the celebration committee
Md Aslam Hossain told BSS that on the occasion of his 158th birth
anniversary, an elaborate programme has been chalked out by the Cultural
Ministry, Kushtia District Administration and Archeology Department.

The Kuthibari has been renovated and decorated for the occasion.

The programme will be inaugurated by acting AL general secretary
Mahbubul Alam Hanif.

Beginning at 9am, the festival will continue till 5pm every day.

A total of 13 CCTV cameras will ensure security for visitors and
continuous monitoring of the area during the festival.

Tagore came to Shelaidaha in November 1889 to look after his family
estate. It was his first visit to Shilaidaha.

The legendary poet breathed his last at his paternal residence in
Kolkata on Sraban 22 of Bangla year 1348 (August 7, 1941).
