Festive mood to welcome Pahela Baishakh in Ctg

CHATTOGROM, April 13, 2019 (BSS)- A festive mood has been prevailing to bid farewell the old year and welcome “Pahela Baishakh”, the Bengali New Year 1426, in the city as elsewhere in the district tomorrow.

Every look and corners of Chattogram city and district wear festive looks and law enforcing agencies taken three tires security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of the traditional ‘Pahela Baishakh’ festivities.

Hundreds of people will gather in city’s DC hill park to bid farewell to outgoing year with huge cultural programmes.

Government, non-government, socio-cultural, professional, trade bodies, business and other organisations, NGOs, private bodies and educational institutions have also taken brisk preparations to celebrate the occasion.

Celebration of the ‘Choitra Sangkaranti’, the last day of the outgoing year, already began today in the country’s business hub Khatungonj side by side hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places through traditional ‘Halkhata’ for renewal of business accounts clearing dues, Mahabubul Alam, President of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries said.

According to the Chattogram district administration, different colorful programmes have been chalked out to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with traditional festivities of the Bangalees.

To welcome the Bengali New Year, a colorful “Mongol Shobha Jattara” will be brought out from fine arts institute at 9 am tomorrow and the rally will parade different important city roads.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) will bring out the ‘Baishakhi’ procession at M A Aziz stadium of Gymnasium of outer stadium in the city in participation of its 35 school and colleges students at 9 am to welcome the Bengali New Year, Abdur Rahim, Publice Relation officer of CCC told BSS.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, inaugurated two day long function chalked out today.

Sammilito Pahela Boishakh Parishad will bring out huge procession and assemble at DC hill park tomorrow dawn.

Thousands of people of all ages will take part in the procession carrying festoons, placards and banners and singing Baishakhi songs, ‘Polli Geeti’, ‘Jarigan’, ‘Bhatiali’, ‘Baul’, ‘Lalon Geeti’, ‘Nazrul Geeti’ and ‘Rabindra Sangeet’ and folk songs.

Meanwhile, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) yesterday issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla New Year.

According to the traffic advisory of CMP on April 14, people should use 14 alternative points for traffic movement centering the DC Hill and CRB hill and Gymnasium area of MA Aziz stadium.

All entry and exit points of the DC Hill and CRB hill and Gymnasium area of MA Aziz stadium will be monitored round-the-clock with Closed Circuit TV Cameras on April 14, CMP additional Police commissioner Amena Begum said.

Amena Begum also urged people of all concerned to complete their respective function by 6 pm on April 14.
