Vietnamese President departs for Hanoi

DHAKA, March 6, 2018 (BSS) – The visiting Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, who arrived here on Sunday on a three-day state visit, left Dhaka for Hanoi this afternoon.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali saw the Vietnamese President off at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport at about 3 pm. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak, among others, was present at the airport.

During his three-day Bangladesh visit, the Vietnamese President held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and joined a banquet hosted by President Abdul Hamid.

Quang also paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 1971 Liberation War Martyrs by placing wreaths at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi and National Memorial in Savar.

He visited Jatiya Sangsad complex where Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury paid a courtesy call on him.

Besides, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin paid a courtesy call on the Vietnamese President at his hotel suit.

Quang also joined a business session of Bangladesh-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and attended another meeting of Vietnam-Bangladesh Business Forum.

This is a high level visit of any Vietnam leader in 14 years as former President Tran Duc Luong toured Bangladesh in 2004. Vietnam was among the first countries of the world which recognised the Independent Bangladesh in 1971.
