Govt working on removing harassments of hajj pilgrims: Abdullah

GOPALGANJ, Mar 18, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah today said the government is working sincerely for removing harassments of hajj pilgrims.

“We are taking various initiatives for smooth movement of hajj pilgrims so that they can perform hajj without any harassment,” he told journalists at a training programme at Gopalganj Islamic Foundation office.

Another function was held at Gopalganj Islamic Foundation office marking the 100th birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Abdullah said, “Hajj pilgrims were facing various sorts of irregularities by a section of dishonest hajj agencies…. But we have been able to remove malpractices as hajj agencies were brought under a discipline.”

In the past, only 6,000 hajj pilgrims performed hajj, he said adding, at present, over one lakh people go to Saudi Arabia for performing their hajj every year.

District Parishad Chairman Emdadul Haque, leaders of Gopalganj district unit of Awami League and officials of Islamic Foundation, among others, addressed the function with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman in the chair.
