Dhaka for soft, unconditional funds for UNDS

 DHAKA, March 2, 2018 (BSS) – Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Nojibur Rahman has stressed the need of soft and unconditional funds for the (UNDS) to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Soft fund, especially unconditional financial support, would have to be increased to enhance the skills and activities of UNDS besides giving balanced importance of three dimensions of SDGs,” he told the ‘Operational Activities Segment’ of the United Nations Economics and Social Council (ECOSOC) – 2018 at the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday, said an official release here today.

Rahman emphasized more involvement of UNDS with the least developed, land locked countries and the developing small island states for increasing productivity and infrastructures.

He also declared the full support of Bangladesh to formulate strategic and potential plans for UNDS at the national level.

The event started on February 27 and ended on March 1.

The segment looked at the key elements of the response to the 2016 Resolution on the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review, including the reports of the Secretary-General on repositioning of the UN development system in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the 2018 report of the Secretary-General on QCPR implementation.
