Deal signed for 583MW power plant at Meghnaghat

DHAKA, Mar 14, 2019 (BSS) – The government today signed five separate
contracts with Summit Corporation Limited and GE Consortium for constructing
a Combined Cycle Power Plant at Meghnaghat, Narayanganj having 583 MW power
generation capacity.

Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram,
witnessed the contracts signing ceremony as the chief guest, while founder
Chairman of Summit Group Muhammad Aziz Khan, US Ambassador to Dhaka Earl R.
Miller, Power Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Energy Secretary Abu Hena Md
Rahmatul Muneem, Petrobangla Chairman Ruhul Amin, BPDB Chairman Engineer
Khaled Mahmood and Gas Power, GE Chairman John Rice were present as special
guests at the ceremony held at Bidyut Bhaban here.

Summit Corporation Limited and GE Consortium, a USA company will jointly
implement the power plant project within March 2022, according to sources at
Power and Energy Ministry.

Adhering to its commitment of providing reliable and affordable
electricity to Bangladesh, Summit Meghnaghat II Power Company Limited
(SMIIPCL), a subsidiary of Summit Group, signed power purchase agreement
(PPA) with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for 22 years, Land Lease
Agreement (LLA) with BPDB, Gas Supply Agreement (GSA) with Titas Gas
Transmission and Distribution Co Ltd (Titas), Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA)
with the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Implementation Agreement
(IA) with Power Grid Company (PGCB) and the government.

However, the project officials concerned expected that the company would be
able to supply power from its plant within the stipulated time.
