ADB President visits projects in Narsingdi, Bhairab

 DHAKA, Feb 27, 2018 (BSS) – Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao, who arrived here Monday night on a three-day visit, today made field visits to see for himself the operations of some ADB-aided projects.

During a special train journey to the Bhairab Bazar Railway Station from Cantonment Railway Station, Nakao witnessed a presentation from the Bangladesh Railway, an ADB official told BSS.

The official said Nakao then traveled to Komolpur Hazi Zahiruddin School by road in Bhairab to see the operations under the Secondary Education Sector Investment Programme where he interacted with teachers and students.

After making a visit to the Ashuganj Power Plant, the ADB president then paid a visit to Narsingdi Pourashava where he witnessed a presentation on projects under City Region Development Project and Urban Governance and Infrastructure Improvement Project by poura Mayor Md Kamruzzaman.

The chief of the Manila-based lending agency then traveled back to the capital by a special train. Nakao witnessed a presentation on board the train by the Managing Director of Dhaka WASA on the Dhaka Water Supply Network Improvement Project.

Nakao was scheduled to meet Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith at a city hotel in the evening.

On Wednesday, he will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganobhaban residence before meeting the press at around 1:00 pm at the ADB’s resident mission.

Later, he is scheduled to visit Bangladesh Liberation War Museum in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

The ADB President will leave Dhaka on Thursday morning after visiting a green garment factory in Gazipur named Viyellatex Group.

Bangladesh joined ADB in 1973, and in 1982 became the first ADB member to host a field office.

Till date, more than $20 billion from ADB’s loans, grants, and technical assistance have been approved for the country. Approved nonsovereign loans, equity investments, and guarantees have totaled $985.28 million.
