Next budget to be growth oriented: Kamal
DHAKA, March 10, 2019 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said the government will announce growth oriented budget for the fiscal 2019-20.
“The next budget will be pro-growth, pro-development, pro-manufacturing and pro-export oriented,” he told journalist after a pre-budget meeting with leading financial think tanks at the State Guest House Padma here.
Economists and representatives of Economic Research Group (ERG), Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), Policy Research Institute (PRI) and Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) took part in the discussion.
The think tanks gave a number of suggestions, including giving attention on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Vision-2021 and Vision-2041.
The finance minister said the government has embarked on a multidimensional plan to take special projects in the next national budget to turn villages into towns in line with the ruling party’s election manifesto.
“We will take projects for developing infrastructure in the rural areas’ he added.”
He said the government will also provide special focus on social safety net programme. “We will ensure employment opportunities for at least one member of each family,” he added.
Kamal said the government will implement the new VAT law from July 1.
