DB arrests 12 dacoits, 2 HuJI men in capital

DHAKA, March 4, 2019 (BSS) – Detective branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 12 dacoits and two members of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) in separate raids in the capital.

The arrested dacoits are- gang boss Mofazzal Hossain alias Boro Bhai alias Dada, Md Zahir Uddin Bhuiyan alias Chowdhury, Md Atikur Rahman, Md Moniruzzaman alias Noyon, Laddu Mollah, Qaium Shikder, Alauddin Sheikh, Munshi Khasruzzaman alias Major, Jahangir Hawlader, Subroto Das, Mintu Karmaker and Oliullah Hawalader alias Oli.

Police recovered two 9 mm pistols, two 7.65 mm pistols, 33 bullets, one machete, one cutter, one hacksaw, one range, two plus, two screw driver, one knife and pickup from their possession.

“Acting on intelligence report, a team of DB east division raided Dholaipar area in the capital on March 3 at around 10.25 pm. We managed to detain 12 dacoits from in front of Asia General Hospital and Diagnostic Center. The dacoits in the primary interrogating confessed that they were waiting there to rob Pubali Bank in the area,” Additional Commission (DB) Md Abdul Baten told newsmen at a press briefing at DMP media center today.

The dacoits also said they had shot at police in Mymensingh on January 13, 2019, injuring one cop seriously. They even robbed different installations in India and spent days in jail after getting caught there.

“During interrogation, dacoit Md Atikur Rahman said there are more weapons hidden in his Rampura home. A DB team raided his home at around 11.45 pm and arrested two active members of HuJI, Hafij alias Khalid alias Ibrahim Gazi and Mamunur Rashid alias Bacchu Mollah from the home,” Baten added.

Police recovered one AK .22 rifle, one pipegun, eight bullets, jihadi books, 10 kilograms of gun powder and Taka 3.50 lakh in cash from there.

The two militants in the primary interrogation said they carry out dacoity in different places to manage their organization expense and spend 30 percent of the booty to this purpose.

Two cases were filed with Jatrabari Police Station and one with Rampura Police Station in this regard.
