DHAKA, Feb 26, 2019 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul
Huda today asked the returning officers (ROs) and assistant returning
officers (AROs) to apply all-out authority given to them to hold the upcoming
upazila parishad polls in a free, fair and neutral manner.
“You have been given every authority to run an election. If you cannot
apply your power, that will be your failure,” he told the ROs while
inaugurating a training workshop for ROs and AROs of 4th phase UZ polls at
Agargaon’s Election Training Institute (ETI) here.
The CEC said: “If any candidate, whether he or she is powerful or not,
violates electoral code of conduct, you must take legal action against the
candidate. You can fine the violators or bring them to jail.”
Huda asked the concerned election officials to take actions against
violators of electoral code of conduct irrespective of political or party
affiliation or social identities.
Election Commissioners Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier
General Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury (retd.) were present on the occasion.
