Quader seeks India’s cooperation for Rohingya repatriation

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today sought cooperation of Indian government for the repatriation of Rohingya who crossed into Bangladesh fleeing the violence in their homeland.

He made the appeal at the closing ceremony of the three-day Bangladesh-India Media dialogue at the Radisson Hotel here.

State Minister for Information Tarana Halim and Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Dr Adarsh Swaika, among others, were present at the function with Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Prof Abdul Mannan in the chair.

Quader said, “It is urgent to resolve the Rohinga crisis….. India extended their cooperation during the War of Liberation. I hope that India will provide their support to end the Rohinga problems.”

Referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment regarding Teesta water sharing, he urged the Indian government to take immediate steps for resolving the Teesta water sharing issue.
