Bangladesh New Delhi mission observes Amar Ekushey

NEW DELHI, Feb 21, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1952 language movement with a resolve to upholding the spirit for which the heroes laid down their lives.

The national flag was lowered to half mast at the chancery premises by High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali in observance of the Language Martyrs’ Day of Bangladesh and International Mother Language Day. Officers and officials of the mission were present.

Amar Ekushey messages from President Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam were read out.

Special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the language heroes and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

One-minute silence was observed in mourning the death of about 70 people in a devastating fire in Dhaka’s Chowkbazar on Wednesday night.

Message from Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO on the occasion of International Mother Language Day was read out.

Syed Muazzem Ali later moderated a panel discussion highlighting the importance of teaching the indigenous people in their mother languages.

The discussion was participated by Jawaharlal Nehru University teacher Syed Anwar Hossain and Director General of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC)K G Suresh.

The day’s programme was rounded off with rendering of patriotic and language movement songs.
