55 exploration wells, 31 development wells, 22 work over by 2021

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) will complete work of 55 exploration wells, develop 31 wells and workover of 22 wells by 2021 as per the vision-2021 for raising gas production in the country.

“We have undertaken a plan to complete dig/work of 27 wells during the current financial year under the vision-2021,” State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told BSS here today.

He said the present government has done work of 14 exploration wells, dig 52 development wells and complete work of 25 wells along with two dimension seismic survey of 16,662 line kilometer and 4,106 square kilometer two dimensional survey.

Nasrul said the gas supply has been increased to 1,006 mmcfd during the present government’s sincere efforts and various initiatives to accelerate economic growth and improve lifestyle of the common people.

“In 2009, the natural gas supply was only 1,744 mmcfd, which rose to 2,750 mmcfd,” the state minister added and said the government has also installed three compressors and 862 kilometer high pressure pipelines to control gas pressure. Besides, he said the state run BAPEX would complete 570 line kilometer soil survey and 9,800 kilometer two dimensional seismic survey and 2,940 square kilometer three dimensional seismic survey to meet the country’s growing energy demand.

“The government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has a vision to reach uninterrupted electricity supply to all citizens by 2021 along with ensuring energy security in the country to make Bangladesh a middle income country,” Nasrul.

He said the country’s energy security will be ensured giving importance with mixed fuel including gas, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), coal, furnace oil, diesel and renewable energy.
