5 injured as bus catches fire from gas pipeline leakage in city

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2019 (BSS) – At least five passengers of a bus sustained burn injuries as a passenger bus caught fire from a gas pipeline leakage on Mirpur road in city’s Dhanmondi area this afternoon.

A city bus of route no-7 caught fire around 3.35 pm in front of Sunrise Plaza near Dhanmondi-27 due to gas pipeline leakage, said Ashraful Islam, Station Officer of Mohammadpur Fire Service Station.

A pick up van also caught fire at that time, he said.

Being informed, two units of firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze, he said.

Of the injured, two were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while three others to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Ashraful added.

“The gas supply remains suspended now at city’s Dhanmondi and adjacent Mohammadpur area due to the incident,” said Engineer Kamruzzaman Khan, director (operation) of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Ltd.

The gas pipeline repairing is now underway and the gas supply will resume by 10 pm tonight, said the official.
