Rangpur prepares to observe Shaheed Dibash

RANGPUR, Feb 20, 2019 (BSS) – The common people from all walks in life
are ready to observe the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language
Day-2019 tomorrow in Rangpur division.

The district administrations, socio-cultural and professional
organisations, political parties, private bodies and educational institutions
have chalked out programmes to observe the day with due solemnity, officials
said.

In Rangpur divisional city, the observance will begin at one minute past
after midnight on February 21 with placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed
Minar here to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner
Muhammad Joynul Bari and Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of
Bangladesh Police Devdas Bhattacharya and Rangpur Metropolitan Police
Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud will place wreaths there.

Later, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib and Police Super Mizanur Rahman
along with other officials will place wreaths there to be followed by the
other government and non-government departments and organisations and
institutions.

Local leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL) and
other political parties, professional organisations and common people will
place wreaths there to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs.

The programmes include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop
all government and private buildings and educational institutions, ‘probhat
ferry’, decoration of the city streets with miniature national and coloured-
flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.

Competitions for children on drawing, essay writing, descent hand
writing, rendering patriotic songs and sports for underprivileged children
will be arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language
movement.

The language movement veterans will be accorded receptions and cultural
functions be organised to mark significance of the day and special prayers
will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of
religious worships.

The local daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, online and others
newspapers will publish special issues and Rangpur Betar Kendra will air
special programmes narrating significance of the day.

The authorities of Rangpur City Corporation, Begum Rokeya University,
Rangpur Medical College and other educational institutions, different socio-
cultural, political and professional organisations have also chalked out
programmes to observe the day.

The Divisional Commissioner will attend the main discussion to be
organised by the district demonstration at 7:30 pm followed by cultural
functions on the Central Shaheed Minar premises as the chief guest with the
Deputy Commissioner in the chair.

The district administrations concerned have chalked out similar
programmes to observe the day in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Kurigram,
Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts in Rangpur division tomorrow.
