BCL human chain demands enriched DU library

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2019 (BSS) – On the eve of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union poll, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) today staged a human chain demanding modern, digitalised and enriched library complex capable for meeting the needs of 43,000 students of Dhaka University (DU).

Hundreds of activists of BCL, pro-Awami League students’ organisations gathered at the human-chain in front of DU central library.

“We promised that we will implement general students’ needs if we win at the upcoming DUCSU election,” said BCL general secretary Golam Rabbani at the programme.

“The university authority announced huge budget each year and fulfilled teachers’ needs but unfortunately students’ proper demands were not met”

“We demanded authority to declare the deadline to make the central library a digital, modern and world-classes,” said Rabbani.

While addressing the programme, BCL Central president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon said, “Many physically challenged students study at Dhaka University but there is no opportunity for them to read at the central library. We urged the authority to make our library modern and digital to meet each student’ needs”

He also urged the authority to ensure enough seats at the hall libraries and reading rooms.

BCL DU unit president Sanjit Chandra Das said, “We along with general students would go for tougher movement if our demand for digital library complex isn’t fulfilled.”

BCL DU unit general secretary Saddam Hussain also spoke.

Apart from this, ‘Progressive Students Alliance ‘And ‘Anti-Imperialism Students Alliance’ jointly besieged vice-chancellor’s office and staged a sit-in for implementation of their 6 point demands including setting up DUCSU polling centres outside the hall and ensure congenial political atmosphere over the campus and residential halls.
