Jamaat’s reemergence under new banner is unwelcome: Moni
CHANDPUR, Feb 16, 2019 (BSS) – Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said Jamaat-e-Islami’s possible reemergence under a new banner keeping its ideology unchanged could be a matter of concern.
“Jamaat’s ideology is very communal and it favours militancy . . . it is a matter of concern if they reappear (in the political landscape) with a new name,” she said referring to a senior Jamaat leader’s comments appeared in the media.
The minister’s comments came as newsmen approached her for remarks about Jamaat’s assistant secretary general Barrister Abdur Razzaque’s resignation from the party and comments which appeared in newspapers.
She, however, welcomed Razzaque’s comments acknowledging Jamaat’s heinous 1971 role and blasting the party for not expressing its apology for opposing Bangladesh’s emergence.
“I welcome his words. But his further actions will let us see what he really meant with those words,” she said after attending the biennial conference of Rabeendra Sangeet Council at Chandpur Zilla Shilpakala Academy.
