“Journalists will be critical for country’s development”
KHULNA, Feb 16, 2019 (BSS) – Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque here on Saturday said, journalists can play vital role for country’s development.
He was speaking at the tri-annual general meeting of the Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) as chief guest held at the Humayun Kabir Balu auditorium in Khulna Press Club.
KUJ President S M Zahid Hossain chaired the meeting while Chairman of Khulna Zilla Parishad Sheikh Harun -ur Rashid and President of BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Molla Jalal addressed, as special guests.
Journalists Mokbul Hossain Mintu, A K Hiru, Sheikh Abu Hasan, Shah Alam, Faruk Ahmed, Md. Saheb Ali, Mamun Reza, S M Farid Rana, Sunil Das, Gaurango Nandi, among others, addressed the meeting.
The chief guest said journalists should work for objective journalism shunning political bias and present development of government in their respective medium.
The government is implementing the 9th Wage Board for the wellbeing of journalists, the mayor said and added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had already formed Kallyan (Welfare) Trust for journalists and had also created other opportunities for media persons.
Earlier, the chief guests and special guests were received with crests of honour.
The annual election of executive committee of KUJ will be held tomorrow at Khulna Press Club auditorium.
