BSTI fines 19 shops in Rajshahi, Rangpur

RAJSHAHI, Feb 3, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution
(BSTI) penalised 19 shops about Taka 1.86 lakh in Rajshahi and Rangpur
divisions in January this year for selling and manufacturing adulterated food
items.

Mobile courts of the BSTI Rajshahi regional office in association with
local administration conducted drives at different parts of Rajshahi and
Rangpur regions and found selling of substandard food items, violating the
rules and regulations.

The courts also realised Taka 1.86 lakh from the shop owners during the
drives conducted in nine districts under Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.

BSTI director (Rajshahi) Altab Hossain said the regional office has
conducted its drives against the shops involved in manufacturing substandard
and adulterated food items.

Such drives will continue in the future, he said.

The BSTI regional office also conducted 27 surveillance drives for
prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement, and formalin use in fruit
and fish.

Two cases were filed during the drives, BSTI officials said.
