Govt is committed to uplift country : lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 4, 2019 (BSS) – Lawmakers both from treasury and
opposition benches today said the government is committed to uplift the
country by improving all the sectors through achieving sustainable development
goals (SDG) by 2030 and a developed one within 2041.

The country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina already has
achieved the millinium devleolpment goals (MDG) and achieved the global
recognition of the medium income country and also to be a developed one by
2041.

Taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s
address in the Jatiya Sangsad on January 30, 2019, they hailed the present
government of Sheikh Hasina for assuming power for three consecutive period
since 2008.

“Country’s per capita income now reach to 1752 US dollars from the earlier
543 US dollars was in 2005-06 …the inflation now declined to 5.4 per cent from
its earlier level of 7.16 per cent in 2005-06,” said lawmaker Capt (retd)
Tajul Islam.

“Due to strict position taken by Sheikh Hasina, we availed to protect the
democracy through holding parliamentary election on January 5 in 2014, but BNP
stands against democracy and rule of law,” said the lawmaker.

“Once the people was deprived from the five fundamental needs including
education, but now nearly 99 per cent children are under the coverage of
education,” said Jatiya party lawmaker Rustam Ali Farazi.

Terms the achievement of SDG as challenging, the opposition lawmaker said the
government is working to achieve the SDG target amid a lot of challenges like
drugs, terrorism and militancy, saying that the government should to be strict
to face those challenges.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech
highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation
towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent
Bangladesh.

Treasury bench members Saifuzzaman, Abdus Sobhan Mia , Abu Zahir, also
addressed in the thanks giving motion.
