UPDF-backed PCP district president held
RANGAMATI, Feb 2, 2019 (BSS) – Police today arrested Rangamati district president of Pahari Chhatra Parishad(PCP), a United People’s Democratic Front(UPDF-Prosit)-backed organisation, Kunentu Chakma with illegal arms, ammunition and toll money from Kutubchari Upar Para area under Rangamati Sadar upazila.
Police sources said, acting on a tip-off, a team of joint forces raided the Kutubchari area where leaders of UPDF (Prasit) group and PCP holding a secret meeting discussing how to distribute illegally collected toll money among them.
After realizing presence of the members of law enforcing agencies, leaders of the groups managed to flee except Kunentu Chakma.
Police seized one foreign pistol, five bullets, four mobile sets and Taka 4,05,800 from Kunentu Chakma.
Police sources said the UPDF (Prasit) group’s chief collector Rabi Chandra Chakma, member of armed wing Ranajit Chakma, organizer of Kaukhali upazila Samrat Chakma and convener of Gonotantrik Jubo Forum Dhamra Singha Chakma were, among others, at the secret meeting those managed to flee.
The arrested Kunetu Chakma is one of the accused of the murder case of Naniarchar upazila chairman advocate Shaktiman Chakma.
Later in front of journalists, Kunentu confessed that he had collected the toll money giving threats to different quarters of the district and he is involved in anti-state activities.
