The deceased was identified as Mostafa Morshed Akash, 34, son of late Abdus Sabur, a doctor of 13 number medicine ward of CMCH. They hailed from Bangla Bazar village under Chandanaish Upazila of the district.

Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Chandgaon Thana, said Akash completed MBBS from CMCH and tied the knot with Tanjila Chowdhury Mitu, an expatriate Bangladeshi residing in the US, in 2016. He also conducted a coaching centre named ‘Three Doctors’ at Panchlaish Thana in the city, he added.

Suspecting illicit relationship of Tanjila, Akash recently had altercation with his wife. Newaz Morshed, younger brother of the deceased said before Akash’s apparent suicide, Akash had shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile and wrote about her alleged extramarital affair before announcing his decision to commit suicide.

According to his final Facebook status, the couple tied the knot in 2016. He accused his wife of having an affair with another man before and after their marriage which caused a rift in their conjugal life. Newaz Morshed rushed Dr Akash to CMCH in an unconscious state early today, said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alauddin of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital police outpost.

“We have learned from his younger brother Morshed that he took an insulin overdose,” the ASI said.
