Mustafizur snatches victory for Rajshahi Kings in BPL

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 26, 2019 (BSS)- It was a brilliant bowling display pacer Mustafizur Rahman helped Rajshahi Kings to earn their their fifth win in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 beating Chittagong Vikings by seven-run in the 32nd match of the tournament held on Saturday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Chasing a massive winning target of 199 runs set by Rajshahi, Chittagong made a a good start but eventually fell short as they were restricted at 191 for 8 in stipulated 20 overs.

Pakistani recruit Yasir Ali top scored with 38-ball off 58 runs hitting seven boundaries and two over boundaries while Mohammad Shahzad blasted 22-ball off 49 runs with the help of three boundaries and five over boundaries.

Sikandar Raza (15-ball off 29-run) and Mushfiqur Rahim 20-ball off 22-run) were the other notable scorers for Chittagong.

Mustafizur Rahman was the most successful bowler as he claimed three Chittagong’s wickets conceding 28 runs. He was well supported by Mehedy Hasan and Kamrul Islam who both picked up two wickets each giving away 25 and 44 runs respectively.

Mustafizur Rahman of Rajshahi Kings was named the player of the match for his brilliant bowling spells.

Earlier a brilliant half century by opener Johnson Charles helped Rajshahi Kings to post a massive total of 198 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs after they were forced to bat first by Chittagong Vikings.

Johnson Charles smashed 43-ball off 55 runs with the help of five boundaries and two over boundaries and during the process he shared two important partnership first with Soumya Sarkar (26) and second wicket stand with Laurie Evans (36).

Later Christiaan Jonker (17-ball off 37-run ) and Ryan ten Doeschate ( 12-ball off 27 runs ) made a quick fire helped Rajshahi to post a challenging total for Rajshahi.

Khaled Ahmed was the pick of Chittagong bowlers as he claimed two wickets giving away 32 runs.

With this win, Rajshahi Kings improved their position at fifth place with ten points from ten matches while Chittagong Vikings despite the day’s defeat, remained top of the table with 12 points from nine matches. Monday’s matches: Chittagong Vikings vs Khulna Titans (1.30 pm) and Dhaka Dynamites vs Rangpur Riders (6.30 pm) at the same venue.
